Partnership Highlights

PASTORS has a long standing collaboration with the Ralph H. Johnson VA hospital. For over eight (8) years, PASTORS has worked with VA case managers through the HUD- VASH program to place clients in properties developed by PASTORS. In 2021, PASTORS announced a new Memorandum of Understanding with Roper Saint Frances Hospital to house AIDs clients.

In 2021 PASTORS entered into an Agreement with the Town of Summerville to provide Fair Housing workshops and monthly Homeownership workshops.

In conjunction with Community Works, PASTORS launched a new series of technical assistance workshops on Faith-Based Development. In October 2021, the initial session was held in Greenville. Over fifty (50) participants attended. A link to the initial session and the technical assistance sessions can be found on the PASTORS Youtube page.

Working with Charleston county and the Town of Hollywood, PASTORS held a ribbon-cutting in October 2021 at 6767 Holly Tree Drive. PASTORS recently completed construction on its third project in Hollywood. After a successful rental project, PASTORS completed two homeowner- occupied units in the Holly Grove subdivision in Hollywood. These homes were sold at eighty percent (80%) of the Charleston county area median income.

Economic Empowerment Through Economic Development

With a demonstrated history of developing and preserving affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families at either 60% or 80% of the local area median income, PASTORS empowers houses of worship to leverage their assets for fiscal sustainability. Some represented churches generate between $2,000 and $10,000 monthly revenue to support church operations and outreach activities. Examples included:

Greater Middleton Chapel AME Church – Secured 10-Year commercial lease to Old Central Alcohol Anonymous for use of former sanctuary space;

Wallingford Presbyterian Church – Veterans Housing using HUD-VASH vouchers to create a revenue stream for the church;

New Israel Reformed Episcopal Church– A series of developments including a commercial lease to Montessori School, Veterans Housing, and Scattered Site Rental Housing. The scattered site housing includes 60% AMI affordable rentals, workforce housing, and market rate housing. The below master plan reflects a few of these developments.
